Rosh Hashanah

Life stories

September 30, 2011

It is always around this time of the year that I suddenly begin to realize how quick the rest of the year is about to fly by. It feels as though moments after I am done writing this, I will be huddled up under a fleece blanket drinking peppermint hot chocolate, sneaking a wet kiss under the mistletoe and counting down from ten like an eager caveman up against a TV screen, watching the silver ball drop on New Years Eve.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year and it is only September.

It is precisely when I am sitting at the Rosh dinner table, watching others pass around the chicken while I stuff my mouth and my plate, simultaneously, with kugel and challah bread that it hits me—like the heart burn will soon after I swallow the meal—I need to step up my game!

And so, while I am laying down in a food coma, imagining myself lacing up my sneaks and putting on a sweatband doing P90X to the Rocky soundtrack, I tell myself it’s time. Time to kick to the curb the garbage that makes me move slower, squeeze out the love from the people and the things that surround me like I am desperate for the last bit of toothpaste out of the tube and take a few moments out of every week and do something that keeps me working toward accomplishing my wildest dreams.

It’s that pep talk caught up inside a single delicate smile that my 92-year-old aunt sneaks me from across the table that really makes me ready to make the final months of this year MY…..own.

5772 I am ready for you. 2012, see YOU in a few months.

Happy Rosh, to you and yours. May your fate be sealed with health and love this year ♥
